Anubis

Sold

Anubis is the Egyptian God of the Dead. It is his job to guide the recently departed to the underworld, and was in charge of embalming. He was sometimes seen as being a jackal and sometimes a jackal-headed man. we have Anubis in his half human, half jackal form, caught in a rather ungodly situation. Apparently Anubis has been infested by the fleas of a thousand camels, a curse courtesy of Set no doubt. He is attempting to scratch behind his ear, but is having a difficult time remaining dignified.

As he is trying to relieve his itch, he is drooling a bit and there is a drop of saliva dripping from his tongue,

suspended just before it drops to the floor. Like many gods who dealt with death, Anubis wasn't a bad guy or one to be feared, he was a friend to those who had died and was there to make sure they came to no harm on their way to the underworld. In a sense he was a loyal companion.

Anubis has been sculpted entirely by hand without the use of molds of any kind. He has been painted with acrylics and his headdress, pectoral, arm bands, and outfit are painted with a metallic gold acrylic paint to simulate the gold leaf found on many statues of Anubis and other Egyptian figures.

Anubis is my fourth sculpture and is a diversion from the other three I have created, but he was just itching (no pun intended) to come out and I had to oblige him. Who am I to deny the Egyptian God of Mummification? Chances are he has a connection or two. For those of you looking for elves or other faes, be patient since my next one will be in the that vein.

Anubis "sits" 6" tall to the tip of his ear, but would be about 13 1/2 inches standing.
