David~ Cycle of Life
SOLD
 |
On December 6, 2004 my nephew David's
second child was born. She decided time
was up and she was ready to make her debut,
and her mom nearly didn't make it to the
hospital on time, but Amber was born healthy,
pink, screaming and ready for the world.
Five days later, my husband's nephew, also
named David, died suddenly of a massive
heart attack. He was young, only 42 years
old and it was quite a shock to the entire
family.
Less than a week later, I found out my brother
was getting married, and you guessed it,
his name is also David. Within less than
two weeks, three major life events happened
to three different people in our families,
all of which were named David. A birth,
a marriage, and a death, all to a person
whose name in Hebrew means "beloved",
or "beloved one"
|
David is a sculpt reflecting those experiences
incorporating the cycle of life, and although
reference to weddings aren't obvious, they are
in spirit. This is a simultaneous hello and good-bye,
in a bitter sweet moment. In the flash of an eye
one is born and the family has grown by one, and
then one is lost forever, all too soon.
"David" stands 12 inches tall to the
top of his head. He is hand sculpted from polymer
clay over a wire armature that has been strengthened
with Aves Apoxie Sculpt. No molds were used in
his creation nor the creation of "Amber"
the baby, who was sculpted out of polymer clay
alone. He has a soft sculpture body over a wire
armature so he is gently posable if necessary.
"Amber" is only dressed in a knit cap,
and comes with her blanket to keep her warm. "David"
is dressed in multiple layers of materials, and
fine trims, all sewn by myself. His hair is a
salt and pepper mohair, and "Amber's"
hair is a solid black mohair. "David's"
sandals are hand made from leather. He stands
quite securely on a wooden base (store bought
but hand finished by myself) with the help of
brass rods.
